Really good thanks. I got the screw out but not the handle off! Tightened packing nut for first time in 50 years to my knowledge and stopped the leak from the handle.
This is perfect thank s for this. I came across the twin entry radiator value and was not sure how it worked so had to look on You tube - much appreciated.
Thank you so much for these videos!! Managed to keep my lovely old taps and save a few hundred quid in the process.
I managed to break off the pipe i think, because there was a 4 inch bit sticking out of the valve when i pulled it off. Is the broken main pipe removable from the rad? And if so can i bodge a 8mm piece of copper to the valve in place of the broken pipe? I just want reasonable heat until i replace the thing later on. Cheers
The second tool will damage the chrome where it locks over the handle bobs 🙁
U do not have to remove to fit this
Well illustrated, but all the tap components looked clean and shiny like new, and not encrusted with scale or if they might have been seized at all.
Hi. I've been working on a pair of Heritage Dorchester taps and the jumper on the hot tap comes out like the one in your video. However, the cold tap jumper is stuck in and only looks like it's half in/out (if that makes sense?) Just wondering if I should pry out this jumber and fit a new one? Any advice would be great. Thank you
Got one soaking in lemon juice as I type. It might be just clogged up enough with limescale (vinegar works better) to make it too tight to move. The citric acid of lemon juice, or acetic acid of vinegar, will dissolve the lime scale (an alkaline) allowing the precision parts to move without destroying the rubber washers. After about 4 hours it freed itself up enough to clean with a soft brush and carefully with an old panel pin, don't want to scratch it. remove any layers, chunks, or lumps of now soft limescale. Small brass brush, or toothbrush (best use your partners) Hot tap so I'm going with erm, baby oil, or butter to lubricate to put back together.. ;)
Can you pls advise if the tap bonnet cannot be opened with a rubber grip?
Just did this job on my sink and bath taps and was an absolute nightmare for the same reason. Had to borrow a decent set of pipe grips and get them off with pure brute force. I used some rubber padding but wasn't totally successful at avoiding damage to the finish as I had to use so much force that the teeth on the grips bit right through the rubber and I was lucky not to break the sink which I was worried about. One of the taps I didn't manage to get the bonnet off and the whole head gear unscrewed instead with the bonnet still attached.
Forgot to mention I also poured a full kettle of boiling water over the bonnet of each tap immediately before attacking with the grips. Not sure if it helped but it might give just the edge you need.
Wish I'd seen this before ! Took me nearly an hour with various attempts the other day to remove one. This looks like a knuckle saver.
Wonderful video thank you 😊
What's the name of the valve with the built in drain cock and where can I get one?
I got myself a tap reviver kit years ago to fix my cold water tap in my bathroom.. It took me most of the day to remove it, it was exhausting. Fast forward to a few days ago and I was trying to fix my hot water tap and it was even worse, I could not budge it. Thankfully somebody recommended the easy tap splitter on another video and it's simple but ingenius. I wish I had bought one years ago. Got the job done in minutes and was effortless.
Very good explanation and on point video. Top tip, a tampon plugs rads while you're working
This is an exceptionally well engineered tool. I bought one a few months ago having failed to remove a tap head with a spanner. The brass seating was all worn and I was toying with the idea of replacing both taps until I saw this video. The tap head came off effortlessly, thanks to the well made head spanner. The whole job, including replacing the head took less than 5 minutes from getting the tool out of its package. Very highly recommended.
8 years later I need this info
Anyone know if its possible to change these valves to thermostatic ones my house is full of these things ?
I have the same problem. Did you have any luck with the thermostatic valves? I'm thinking of fitting 15mm valves to each end with adapters.
@@alancarter9769 No alan I can only work out you need either trying to find twin thermo valves (wihich would be a crazy price) or replace the twin with normal trv and run the secondry pipe to the other side of the rad which I think I will do but still looking around if I find anything I will give you a shout !
@@xbox360benji Did you find a solution as I have these valves and one has stopped working?
Yes mate I bought thermostats and ran a length of copper to other side and a couple of reducers for thermos and all good.@@inquistive
@@xbox360benji Thank you. Excuse my stupid question but did you run the copper pipe along the inside of the radiator or under it or behind it?
what can i use to get stuck on tap bonnet off ace video
Thanks very much for the explanation. Much appreciated. Will give it a go now I have less fear of trying.
Yeah, a tight fitting ring spanner is better than an adjustable
I would try and avoid draining the radiator and introducing new water into the system, especially in hard water areas can reduce the life of steel radiators. Try and work from the top down by slitting the insulation and sliding / working it down the back of the rad.
Advisable to put a towel in the sink to prevent loose tools damaging sink enamel - if you are using alternative methods.
great product
lifesaver
top stuff
great invention
fantastic
Remove the radiators, that's a bit much. Far better easier way's for the public to carry out this job. Cut to size and use double sided tape.
Could you get away with bunging corks into each end of the rad
Where can I buy this in Australia?
Gud video thank you
I am sure that the plug would be in to stop the small screw dropping down the plug hole.
Great explanation no messing thanks
What is the name of the freezing kit matey?
What kind of lubricant should be used on the tap threads? Should it be oil, or some kind of specialized grease?
Ring spanner and 15" bacho adjustable on the tap mouth. nice bit of kit here but i an running out of room in my meduim wheel base va n due to the amount of kit and spares i carry already. 😀 .The abd tap head removal is another nice bit of kit for older taps were the head gear is seized on.
Is he eating barbeque ribs? If not why is he chopping his lips throughout?
shame you didn't use jointing compound to ensure there are no leaks also do not overtighten the compression nuts
You don't apply any "pressure" - you apply a force.
You don't have to remove the radiator to fit the foil, I've just done the whole house (8 radiators) in a day
💯
I would like to see him get that cover over the rad with 1.5 bar a pressure coming out of it..Lol
Clearly a useful tool, but a last resort as far as my experience suggests, and I've met a few stubborn bugger's. So long as you protect the tap surfaces, wrenches with extended leverage usually does the job, with maybe some release oil. Knowing the cost of this gadget , may also help someone to decide.
There’s me thinking Carl Pilkinton was just an unhelpful bloke. Cheers buddy
I managed to loosen the burred grub screw by pouring hot water over the brass tap to expand it and free it up. Now trying to get and lever the handle off. Any suggestions ?
Just use a couple of blanking plugs🙄
really good video, thank you very much.
Thanks for posting this! Extremely helpful :-)
That would be useful for one or 2 radiators cant use freezing for more rads otherwise it will be too expensive. The clamp thing will only work if the tail is the same size whit is not always the case. I normally would release pressure from drainer then quickly change the valve.
My tap valve was stuck in with hard water deposit. I finally go it removed. The nut was completely rounded. I used the PoziBite attachment. At first the force applied caused the mechanism to twist up. I used a hammer to gently re-alighn it after leaving everything under tension and some wd-40. Took a few attempts but finally worked,
great video, but I've got a Triple Lever Mono Kitchen Mixer and I cant get the hot tap head off. Any ideas?
